Quick Look Back and Forward:

The Yanks took the “L” yesterday afternoon in Pittsburgh, which, in the big scheme of matters, isn’t a huge deal. They took two out of three over the weekend and sit at 6-3 on the season atop the AL East.

That said, getting shut down by Andrew Heaney made it a tough one to watch. The perpetually easy to square up Heaney limited the Bombers to only six baserunners over seven innings while fanning 10. (Heaney only allowed three batted balls over 100 mph, so it’s not as if the Yankees were hitting into bad luck, if you were curious.)

That said, both Trent Grisham and Oswald Peraza came up with big hits to send the game into extras. I say this in the event you haven’t seen or heard me mention five million times that both Grisham and Peraza need to be playing regularly. Alas…

This afternoon the road grays will take on the Tigers in Detroit for the first of three matinees – originally scheduled night games, but due to weather conditions that would make penguins search for heat sources, have switched to daylight hours.

Carlos Rodon gets the start for the Yanks today. The gradute of Our Lady of Perpetual Scowling has had one good and one bad start thus far in 2025, maintaining his position as one of the more untrustworthy Yankee hurlers.

Yanks batters will be teeing it up against the Tigers Casey Mize. The former first overall pick has been up and down since making his debut in 2020, due to injuries and inconsistency. He’s coming off a great start on April Fool’s Day in which he posted 5.2 shutout innings against Seattle with a game score of 70. The right hander throws five pitches and will top out in the low to mid 90s with the fastball, if you haven’t seen him before.

Also worth noting that the Yankees will miss seeing their old friend Gleyber Torres on the field today, as he remains in the IL with a strained oblique.

You can catch the game on the YES network (and presumably listen to Michael Kay make an ass of himself), first pitch is at 3:10pm.

Buy me a coffee?

If you like the blog and would like to see more of it, feel free to buy me a coffee. I prefer the bougee stuff, but I’ll take a Wawa if you’re buying. (Shrug.) It may not seem like much, but every little bit goes a long way toward keeping the blog rolling – thanks in advance!
